The non powered sites are grassed sites situated close to the peaceful New Zealand native bush. The campground is a simple and convenient stopover for those travelling between New Zealand’s North and South Islands – and is located 20 kilometres north of Wellington city on State Highway 1 which is the direct motorway link to Interislander and Blue Bridge ferry terminal. The 15 Person Share Dorm Room is a restored military bunkhouse. The dorm sleeps up to 15 people with a bedding congiguarion of 7 Sets of 2 Single Bunk Beds + 1 Single Bed. A bottom sheet, pillow and pillow case is provided with each bed. The dorm further offers 2 two private toilets, 2 showers, a small table and a handful of chairs. The Dorm may be booked by a group or individuals. Group bookings require a minimum of 8 people. There is a private self catering kitchen/dining facility for group bookings, while there is also a communal kitchen facility (where you bring your own utensils, crockery, pots etc) for all other bookings. The Twin Single Room is located in the Kowhai Lodge, which is a restored military barrack with 24 separately lockable twin rooms, each with two single beds. A bottom sheet, pillow and pillow case is provided with each bed. The Men’s and Woman’s toilets and shower facilities are located in the middle of the Lodge. There is also a disabled toilet/shower included in the facility. A communal guest lounge and kitchenette is also available. The rooms in the Lodge are available for group bookings or individual bookings. There is a private self catering kitchen/dining facility for group bookings, while there is also a communal kitchen facility (where you bring your own utensils, crockery, pots etc) for all other bookings.
