Located on the National Circuit in Barton, only a short walk from the new Parliament House, the Hotel Kurrajong is an iconic heritage boutique hotel whose origins go back to the birth of Canberra as the nation's capital and whose corridors are steeped in Canberra's political history.
Designed in 1924 by the Commonwealth's Chief Architect, John Smith Murdoch (who also designed the Parliament House and the Hotel Canberra,now the Park Hyatt), the Hotel Kurrajong is a fine example of early Commonwealth architecture, influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and, the visionary planner of Canberra, Walter Burley Griffin.
The hotel has retained many of its finest historic architectural features including the pavilions, deep verandahs and radiating courtyards typical of John Murdoch's designs and has also recreated authentic design features such as the Cubist frieze in the lobby copied from original wallpaper discovered during renovations.

Conveniently located in the Parliamentary precinct, each of Hotel Kurrajong's superbly appointed 4 star guest accommodation rooms feature contemporary furnishings, either 1 King Size Bed or 2 Single Beds, a private ensuite bathroom with bath and shower, bathrobes, desk, in-room safe, hair dryer, mini bar, FREE in-room unlimited broadband internet, direct dial phone, colour TV, FREE Foxtel 11 channels (including movies, sport, news, history and entertainment), in house movies, in-room safeair conditioning, heating, radio, alarm clock, tea and coffee making facilities, wake up call, iron and ironing board.
Corporate guests have access to a business room with desktop computer and printer. There are also six meeting/conference rooms ranging from 12 people in a state of the art boardroom with large LCD screen and wireless keyboard and mouse, to theatre style with ceiling mounted data projector for up to 80 people. Hotel Kurrajong, Canberra carries a significant history. One of the first hotels/buildings in Canberra, Ben Chifley (former Australian Prime Minister) was a resident for many years including during World War II when he was treasurer. Guests can make a special request to stay in the Chifley Room. Recently installed are four interpretive history panels in the foyer of the hotel to enhance the experience of history enthusiasts visiting the hotel as an attraction and point of ineterest. One of the early proprietors of the hotel was Mrs Isabella Southwell who is also profiled in the interpretive history panels.
